Free AEO / GEO Tool

AI Answer Readiness Checker

See if a single page is structured to win direct answers in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews

Page-level GEO/AEO check. Distinct from our site-wide AI Visibility Check — this one asks whether one specific page can be cleanly extracted as an answer.

How it works

No black box. Here's exactly what AI Answer Readiness Checker checks.

  1. 1

You give us a page (and optionally a query)

A page on your site, plus optionally the question you want it to answer in ChatGPT/Perplexity/AI Overviews.

  2. 2

    We score 9 extraction signals

Concise lead answer, descriptive headings, FAQ structure, definition pattern, scannability, entity clarity, trust signals, query alignment, content depth.

  3. 3

You get a 0–100 readiness score

Plus a fix list specific to AI extraction — not regular SEO.

  4. 4

    Re-run after fixes

Each high-priority fix should move the score by 5–15 points. Watch the number climb.

Why this matters

AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews don't pick citations the way Google picks search results. They scan candidate pages looking for content they can confidently extract as a quotable answer to the user's prompt. Pages structured around extraction win those citations. Pages structured around prose lose, even when the prose is better.

  • AI engines preferentially extract from short lead paragraphs, FAQ blocks, and clearly-labeled sections.
  • A page with the same content but rewritten as questions and bulleted answers will get cited more often than the same content as long paragraphs.
  • Author + date + outbound source links matter more for AI citation than for ranking — engines verify the source before quoting.
  • This is "Answer Engine Optimization" (AEO) or "Generative Engine Optimization" (GEO) — different discipline from classic SEO.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the AI Visibility Check?
AI Visibility Check audits your homepage to see whether your *brand* is set up to be mentioned by AI engines (entity clarity, schema, trust signals at the site level). AI Answer Readiness Checker audits a *single page* to see whether AI engines can extract a clean answer from it for a specific query. Use Visibility for site-level work; use Answer Readiness for page-level optimization.
What makes an answer "extractable"?
Three things: (1) a concise direct answer near the top — 40–80 words, ideally the first paragraph; (2) clearly-labeled sections with descriptive headings, ideally phrased as questions; (3) the answer is self-contained, so the engine can quote it without needing context from elsewhere on the page.
Should I structure every page as an FAQ?
No. FAQ structure works well for content pages, guides, and reference articles. For product pages, landing pages, or category pages, a clear lead answer + descriptive headings is enough. Don't force FAQ-shape onto pages where it doesn't belong — it reads contrived.
Will this help with Google's SERP too?
Yes. Most of these signals (FAQ schema, descriptive headings, definitions, lists) also help with featured snippets, People Also Ask, and rich results. You're optimizing for the same kinds of extraction Google's SERP has been doing for years.
Does AI engine usage actually affect my traffic?
It already does for branded queries — ChatGPT and Perplexity answer many "what is X" questions directly. Some clicks that used to come from Google now come from AI engines (when they cite you). Sites that show up in AI answers are still in early innings, but the trend is clear and one-way.
Can this run on every page of my site?
Not in this free tool, and Answer Readiness isn't (yet) a per-page score inside the paid product either — it's a single-URL heuristic check. What CrawlTide does at scale is the AI Visibility module: it tracks how your domain actually shows up in real ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview answers across many tracked prompts, week over week, with competitor benchmarks. Use this tool to grade individual pages' structure; use AI Visibility to measure real citation outcomes site-wide. A per-page Answer Readiness tab inside AI Visibility is on the roadmap.
